Comedians | Des Clark
Since the Spring of 2000, Des Clarke has gained recognition as the rising star of Scotland's comedy scene, establishing a strong reputation among peers and audiences alike.
The young Glaswegian's rapid ascendance has seen him headline at all of the major venues north of the border such as The Stand, Blackfriars, Canvas, Dundee Comedy Club and Madcap Comedy. With a leftfield sense of writing and delivery, Des has, in a short space of time, earned widespread acclaim as one of the most unique acts to hit comedy in recent years.
He has only recently returned from a highly successful run at the 2001 Edinburgh Fringe Festival where he performed to great critical acclaim as part of the Gilded Balloon's "The Midnight Show". On the back of such exploits, and his ever improving stage repertoire, Des has already shared the bill with acts such as Ross Noble, Phil Kay, Junior Simpson, Adam Hills and Johnny Vegas.
Clarke first served notice of his arrival on the circuit by capturing the Runner-up spot in Channel 4's "So You Think You're Funny" in August 2000 aged just 19 years old. 12 months later, he augmented his reputation yet further by claiming the Runner-up award in the finals of both the Daily Telegraph Open Mic and BBC New Comedy Awards. This stands today as a truly unique treble unprecedented in comedy circles.
He was later to excel this feat by winning the ITV Golden Mic Award in a show to be broadcast on the network later this year. Such accolades serve only to highlight the potential of Des Clarke, one of our finest new prospects, as he sets about broadening his horizons and building upon the solid foundation crafted by this refreshingly original comic talent.
