Comedians | Reg Anderson

Sundland born Gavin Stott created Reg Anderson - a spoof 1970s cabaret act with music, magic and stand - up comedy. He is an all round entertainer with things going wrong, with his cheesy keyboard, a suitcase full of mad props and his trademark purple slacks, white tuxedo, Hawaiian shirt and crazy, wide - eyed delivery. His mixture of old - school humour and surrealistic silliness has likened his act to Tommy Cooper mixed with Reeves and Mortimer - too daft for sophisticated folk and too sophisticated for daft folk.

Reg’s routine is the culmination of a wide and varied career in the entertainment industry, spanning over twenty years.

His 'show biz' career started in the mid 1970s in North - East of England social clubs as a drummer. He then took up guitar and became a busker, traveling all around Europe. His comedy talent always shone through and his street performance act evolved to include mime, balloons and magic. His street -performance act has taken him to Holland, Germany, Prague, Avignon and he was invited to the prestigious Linz festival in Austria for three consecutive years.

In the mid 1980s he did a drama course in Edinburgh and worked at Edinburgh International Children's Festival for a number of years, for the Edinburgh Puppet Company, a children's entertainer and as a professional musician and songwriter.

His first forays into the world of stand - up comedy and actual venue spaces were at the Comedy Stop - the first comedy club in Edinburgh. He was also one of the original acts at the fledgling Stand comedy club. Even in its formative stages, his act was so promising that he scooped up a finalist place in the prestigious Hackney Comedy Award - Best Newcomer in the early 1990s, compered by Mark Lamar.

He has gone on to be a regular favourite on the Scottish comedy circuit and has gigged throughout Britain. He has collaborated with other Scottish stand - ups, including Janey Godley, Joe Heenan and Allan Miller, on four Edinburgh fringe shows at the Gilded Balloon and the Stand Comedy club. He has had various TV and radio appearances including the Whyte and Mackay advert with Phil Kay, slots on the Fred McCaulay show, a featured spot on the BBC series The Beat Room and Working The Room and other short TV and radio slots. Recently he reached the finals of the Jongleurs newcomers ‘Spike’ awards.

Reg gigs regularly around Scotland and is now, also, a comedy promoter, and has been running some of the best independent comedy nights in Edinburgh for the last five years. His comedy clubs use all the best international and British acts from The Comedy Store, Jongleurs and the Stand, including Craig Hill, The Reverend Obadia Steppenwolfe the Third and Michael Redmond from ‘Father Ted’. His acts are well loved by audiences and acts alike, for their warm atmosphere and professional, theatrical set up. He has run weekly and monthly comedy nights, one - off corporate events and clubs that have run nightly throughout the Edinburgh Festival.
