The second of Just Laugh’s monthly comedy nights kicked off well, despite the horrible weather, with our compere for the evening, Bruce Fummey, getting the crowd in the mood for the acts soon to follow. The “funniest man on the Afro-Celtic comedy circuit” was on the ball with audience interaction and quick to introduce the first act to the packed audience.
Neil McFarlane’s quieter sense of comedy helped slowly draw the crowd out and they were definitely enjoying his blend of international humour. From the different accents to the subtle double meanings certain words have in different countries, Neil had the crowd in high spirits by the time the next act came on.
After the opening act, Vaq Qureshi had a lot to follow, and he used his Asian ethnicity to his advantage and had the Perth crowd howling with laughter at his comparisons to both terrorists and shop-keepers. Despite it being a quick set, the crowd definitely enjoyed it.
Bill Dewar followed straight after and almost stole the show for the evening. The man from Bathgate showed why he is still on the comedy circuit after 11 years, with his “Cumbernauld Aiport” routine having the entire audience crying with laughter. It is no surprise that he walked off stage to huge applause and cheers all round.
The headliner for the evening, Bill Morton, was another veteran of Scottish stand up comedy. His fast paced humour was in stark contrast to the earlier acts, and the crowd soon were in stitches at the hyperactive, excited man standing on the stage. With stories about his wife, Tony Blair and “Whack a Mole”, Bill closed to thunderous applause, ending the night on a high note for the second of Perth’s Just Laugh comedy nights.
