Reviews | Just Laugh Comedy Club Perth
Date: Friday 3rd December 2004
Compere: Bruce Fummey
Comedians: Matt and Faron, Anvil Springstein and Vladimir McTavish
The final Just Laugh show of 2004 started on a high note, as our resident compere, Bruce Fummey had the crowd howling with laughter at his stories about trips to the dentist and his money-spinning idea of combining a dentist’s office with a gynaecologist’s.
The first of the night’s acts was Vladimir McTavish, a fast talking comedian with a sharp tongue. His gags ranged from the Glasgow/Edinburgh divide to homeless people on Princes Street, and were well received by the sold out crowd.
Next up was Neil Duggan, a Belfast man who spoke of being in his thirties, growing up in Ireland, and Viagra. He worked the crowd into a frenzy with his hyperactive style, and was a hard act for anyone to follow.
Matt and Faron were the youngest comedians of the evening. Despite their age, the Geordie comedy duo showed years don’t mean the same thing as talent and provided a fresh style of comedy, mixing “songs” into their act, and using a wig and makeshift costumes (do bin bags count as costumes?) to win over the crowd. This act showed Just Laugh’s versatility and eclectic style.
The headliner for the evening was Anvil Springsteen, a Scouser currently living in Newcastle. He himself joked about the combination, so feel free. The comments about having girls who were half Liverpudlian and half Geordie, as well as the rest of his set were well received by the crowd, who sent him away with thunderous applause ringing in his ears.
As always, Just Laugh delivered a highly entertaining show for it’s audience, and I’m sure this is set to continue in 2005.
