Bruce Fummey’s Just Laugh shows are becoming the place to be every month as word about the high standards is spreading. Friday night was no exception. The ‘best comic on the Afro-Celtic circuit’ was quick to whip the crowd up in anticipation of the evening’s entertainment.

The first act was Reg Anderson, possibly the words cabaret act in the world. His Tommy Cooper-esque routine was fast paced, innovative and highly funny. His use of props and music provided a refreshing change for the Just Laugh crowd, who appreciated his efforts and showed it in applause and cheers.

Next to take the stage was Esmond, whose slow, laid back approach to humour was in stark contrast to the other acts on the night. Esmond’s routine hit home with a lot of the crowd who received thunderous applause as he left the stage.

Bill Dewar made a successful return to the stage on Friday night with many regulars glad to see the funnyman from Bathgate back in town. Bill used his experience to his advantage when highlighting the difference between Glasgow and Edinburgh, and his Cumbernauld Airport routine had everyone howling with laughter.

Headlining the evening was Kevin Hayes, an Irish comic by way of Leicester. While Kevin covered familiar ground, his approach and attitude set him aside from other comedians. Pondering why ‘it is suddenly cool to be Irish’ and why Riverdance was as popular as it was, Hayes was thought-provoking as well as funny, and the audience was left with a brain full of questions as well as sore sides from laughing so hard.
