Ricky Callan, who hails from Penicuik, but lives in Edinburgh, got into stand-up purely by accident in 2002, and hasn’t done a vast amount of gigs, due to having to take a year out recently. His background is in acting, and he has made numerous Film, TV and theatre appearances.
He is also an award winning scriptwriter.
He wouldn’t be so aggressive to say that, just because you can act, you can be a stand-up. It’s a totally different discipline altogether, he’s not out to prove anything, but just enjoys it. You can’t beat the buzz you get from the sound of laughter. Wether it’s with me, or at me…who cares.
He also worked for the ‘coonsil’ in Edinburgh for 18 years, so never had time for drama school either, but then who needs it when you’ve worked there.
