Reviews | Just Laugh Comedy Club Perth
Date: Friday 1st October 2004
Compere: Bruce Fummey
Comedians: Neil McFarlane, Vaq Quereshi, Bill Dewar and Bruce Morton
Like many last Friday, with the onset of dark evenings accompanied by the worst of the Autumn weather, I needed a bit of cheering up and the Just Laugh Comedy Club, whose monthly venue is Bliss & Envy Night-club was the perfect remedy.
Hosted by Bruce Fummey, the resident compere, we were assured a wealth of talent would entertain and were not disappointed. The large audience who had travelled from all over the region were treated to wacky original material from a line up which included Neil McFarlane, Vaq Querishi, Bill Dewar and Bruce Morton.
Fummey has been touring the comedy circuit for more than a year, delivering his own brand of humour in a forthright way.
Now in his early 40s and son of mixed parentage, he proudly wears the colourful Kente cloth – the national dress of Ghana – when performing.
The crowd were thoroughly into it and ready for laughing, although some of the humour was risqué and a bit close to the bone at times for some tastes.
Bill Dewar struck home as particularly spot on, an experienced comic with a tale of Cumbernauld airport (you had to be there). He is a very funny man.
To sum up the efforts of the Perth club in turning the nightclub into a comedy venue; and the standard of comedy itself: impressive.
