Reviews | Just Laugh Comedy Club Perth
Date: Friday 3rd June 2005
Compere: Bruce Fummey
Comedians: Susan Morrison, Joe Heenan, Marc Blake, Keir McAllister
Compere Bruce Fummey continued his G8 related humour at this month’s Just Laugh, commented that now we don’t just have “three Bobbies on a bike, we have horses as well”. Throughout the night, Fummey gave a stellar performance, successfully managing to keep the atmosphere high for the rest of the acts.
First to the stage was Joe Heenan, a Perth man who headlined Just Laugh in its early days. His local knowledge endeared him to the crowd, who were delighted to see his return. Heenan’s experience came in handy in dealing with a heckler, but it didn’t detract from the show, and many found Heenan’s way of dealing with the loud mouthed audience member to be highly amusing.
Next up was Keir McAllister, who possibly stole the show from the other comedians. Talking about giving Ecstasy to the terminally ill, the on-going Michael Jackson trial and living in Dundee, McAllister left the stage to thunderous applause.
Helmut’s performance was extremely funny. An Englishman pretending to be a German (who aren’t widely known for their sense of humour), Helmut’s performance was brilliant because it was slightly different, and a lot of the crowd believed the comic really was German.
The headliner for the evening was Susan Morrison, whose quick talking and gorgeous red shoes had the crowd whooping and cheering. From why Glaswegians talk so fast to boybands, it seemed like their wasn’t a subject the Stand veteran didn’t cover. Morrison successfully managed to finish the night with a bang, and I, like a lot of others in the audience, hope to see her back on a Just Laugh stage in the near future.
